Playfulness is the primary principle. The point of it all is the point of a ball – the point of contact – constantly shifting in play. Play with yourself, play with others. Uninhibited exploration is the bedrock that cradles the fertility of all creativity.
OMΣN
The world is not inert. It is alive, prophetic, demonic, intelligent, proactive and reactive. When we play we are free. When we are free, we encounter the mystery and are compelled to decipher it. Shackled in our interpretation, we too become bound – and if we are not careful, if we listen too lightly and share too little in all the wrong places – we will forget how to play – and be played ourselves.
OLOGY
The mystery arises from primordial play, and we emerge to meet it, like a reflection in a haunted mirror. Subjectivity and Objectivity, irrationality, rationality, order, chaos, light, dark, colour, Self and Other. Phenomena rise and fall like lapping waves against the rock. Stones are old. The sands of time erode us. The fires forge silica to glass and we see ourselves for what we are and grasp nothing – fruit on the branch of a tree – a tree in a forest.
Hello, I am Vincent, the artist behind FUNOMΣNOLOGY. A way-ward trailblazer with an instinct for ecological collaboration. My portfolio spans performance art, installation art, songwriting, singing, drawing, painting, sculpting, videography, rug tufting, voice acting, film acting – as well as performing and recording music. I also apprentice in commercial comic book art creation and corporate design for packaging and advertising.
My growing concern as a creator revolves around the environmental impact and sustainability of the work that I make, as well as the emotional and psychological impact that work can have on anyone who experiences it. The disillusion of human nature (individually, culturally, and globally) as being separate from ‘Mother Nature’ is at the crux of this dilemma.
Processes and materials in making art not only affect our ecosystems by pulling resources from the land that they will ultimately return to, but also impact the course of our shared narratives, as art continues to live and evolve independently of its creators through its cultural impressions and provocations. With this in mind, my focus is to enchant my artwork to be playful, profound, and responsible when entering into the public sphere.
I achieve this primarily through conscientiously crafted narratives that trickle through everything I do. However, my practice is being pulled by an ever deepening consideration for the origin of materials, and how connecting with the origin of raw materials can deepen and enrich the impact of the artworks emergent from them.
Whether I mime, sing, sculpt or tuft – you are invited to unravel my interactive installations, all of which are imbued with entities of the imagination that conjoin the plants of our planet with the shadows of our souls.
